Jacob LaRocca, our our Duct Tape Sculptures teacher, made a model of Serenity (the ship from the space western TV series Firefly) purely out of duct tape. 110 hours of work over six months, all sped up. How awesome is that?
Isaac braving the elements on a cold Sunday morning to get great footage from Blake Evitt’s Sunday morning Parkour course in Winter Hill.
We just put up nearly 30 classes on the classes page. Check em out!
As the event approaches, we’ll add a lot more information about the class – teacher bios, class descriptions, etc.
Due to the amount of questions we’ve received about late submissions, we’ve extended the class submission deadline to December 10th. So if you missed the boat on signing up this month, there’s still time.
Major props to everyone who came out to our first organizer meeting on Wednesday! Great ideas and even better food. If you want to help us organize Somerville Skillshare, there’s still lots of room to help. Send us a FB message or email SomervilleSkillshare@gmail.com, or come to our next organizer meeting at the The Somerville Armory cafe (date TBD)
UPDATE: We are getting FLOODED with great class ideas! Sign up by November 1st if you want to be included in the next round.
If you’re interested in helping us organize Somerville Skillshare, come out to our volunteer get together in Davis Square on Wednesday, October 16th from 7-9 pm! Email SomervilleSkillshare@gmail.com for details.
Now here’s a sneak peak at one of our upcoming classes:
Teach a class with us at Somerville Skillshare!
This is a great way to gain exposure for your work while participating in a highly publicized, community wide educational event.
As teachers are added, we’ll be highlighting their work on the site and on our Facebook page.
You’ll also meet other members of your community who share similar interests and passions.
Japanese bookbinding, home brewing, salsa dancing, charcoal drawing, web design, yoga, bicycle maintenance, juggling, poetry, knitting, etc…whatever your skill, nothing is out of bounds!
Somerville Skillshare’s coolness factor just went up a notch.
Blake Evitt, instructor over at Parkour Generations, will be teaching a class in the performance hall called Parkour: The Art of Displacement.
For those you unfamiliar with Parkour, this video will provide a nice summary:
Blake’s a lifelong Somerville resident who’s recently been featured The Boston Globe and Somerville Scout, where he was featured as one of Somerville’s “10 Hottest Residents.” Sign me up!
You can start learning how to do this at SSKS 2014.
We’re psyched to announce that Somerville is getting its very own Skillshare! We’ll be at the Somerville Armory on March 2nd, 2014 from 12 pm to 6 pm.
